Our Society’s Aims

The New Folkestone Society exists to foster an awareness of our local environment and amenities and to encourage their conservation and enhancement. It is a non-political organisation with membership open to everyone who shares our desire to make Folkestone a more attractive town in which to live and work.

The Society offers a range of activities – talks, lectures, social events and excursions, as well as the occasional practical project. From time to time reports are produced highlighting topics of local concern.

A Newsletter is produced several times a year giving reports of planning and other matters that the Society is involved with and details of future events.

Do you care? Why not join us?
Folkestone has a special character and a rich variety of architectural styles that we can be justly proud of and should try to protect. There are many listed buildings and a Conservation Area embraces much of The Leas, the ‘West End’, town centre and harbour areas. yet there is no room for complacency. We welcome those who care about Folkestone - whether active or ‘armchair’ supporters.
The Society has regular dialogue with counsellors and council officers and is involved with discussion over the town centre, and areas like The Leas, the Coastal Park and East Cliff. We contribute to tree planting throughout the town and have inaugurated a Tree Book of Remembrance in partnership with the Council.
In addition:
  • We hold regular meetings with guest speakers.
