SUMMARY:Visit to Stelling Minnis Windmill and museum - 29th July
DESCRIPTION:We have arranged a private visit to Stelling Minnis Windmill and Museum for NFS members. Friends are welcome – moreover\, you don’t have to be with a member to come along! \nAdmission is free\, but a donation of £5 is suggested. \n  \nRefreshments:\nRefreshments are available in the cafe.\nCream teas are £4 and consist of a homemade scone\, cream\, jam and tea/coffee. Alternatively\, tea or coffee is £1 separately\, squash is 30p and there is a selection of ice creams. \nThe windmill accepts CASH ONLY. \n  \nAccessibility:\nThe upper floors of the windmill are accessed by ladder\, with the topmost floor the most challenging. However\, the museum and cafe are on the ground floor. \n  \nGetting there:\nWe ask that members make their own way to the windmill. However\, if you do not drive\, please email events@newfolkestonesociety.org.uk and we will endeavour to arrange car shares. \nPlease arrive at or soon after 2.00pm\, as we will be split into groups for visiting the museum and the guided tour of the windmill. \nIf you are driving and will have spare seats\, please let us know! \nWe request anyone requiring a lift or offering a car share contacts us by 24 July\, so we can make arrangements. \n  \nDirections:\nDriving towards Canterbury on the B2068 (Stone Street) from M20 J11\, take the turning on the right (Curtis Lane\, signposted Stelling Minnis)\, a couple of miles after the petrol filling station. About half a mile down the road\, turn right into Mill Lane\, and the windmill will be on your left. \nThere is parking on site. \n  \nBooking:\nNo firm bookings are required. However\, if you think you and others are likely to come\, please let us know so that we can give the windmill volunteers an idea of numbers. Furthermore\, if you would like the cream tea\, let us know so we can inform their catering team. \n  \nFurther information:\nThe sweeps (a Kentish word for sails) are currently away being restored at a Millwright’s; although we appreciate this detracts from the visuals of the windmill\, we hope this will not spoil your enjoyment of what is sure to be a fascinating visit! \n  \nMore information on the windmill can be found on the Stelling Minnis village website’s windmill page. \nShare This:

SUMMARY:TALK: Civic Day - History of Grace Hill Library - Kathmandu Cafe
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, 17th June we are offering a FREE event in the afternoon\, at the Kathmandu café\, West Terrace\, Folkestone (near the War Memorial). \nThe presentation will be on ‘The History of Grace Hill Library’ and will be given by Debby Jones\, Gorddinan Consulting. \n“The Folkestone Free Library started life on the Bayle at the Harveian Institution in the late 1870s. The building we see today resulted from an architectural design competition won by Brightwen Binyon.” \nCome and hear more about the origins of your library and how it has developed over the years. \nThere will be a couple of fictional stories afterwards. \nWe will be in the BASEMENT of the café – which is accessed by stairs only. \nThe presentation starts at 2.00pm\, and we will finish by 3.30pm – the café closes at 4.00pm. \nThe Kathmandu are not charging us for the use of the space\, so we do ask that everyone attending arrives with time to spare to buy a drink (the food is very good too!) \nShare This:

SUMMARY:How Do We Feel About Where We Live?
DESCRIPTION:We are holding a FREE community discussion – How Do We Feel About Where We Live? This takes place at the Back Hall of the Cornerstone Centre (former United Reformed Church)\, home of South Kent Community Church. This is the Church next to Folkestone Central and the back hall entrance is opposite the corner entrance to Kingsnorth Gardens. Doors open at 2pm for a 2.30pm start. \nThis will start with a talk by Porchlight on the fantastic work they do in the area helping homeless and vulnerable people\, including those struggling to cope with the pressures in their lives. Come and hear about their free drop-in Porchlight Open Door ‘POD’ meet-ups to get support and advice\, try a new activity or just enjoy a chat. \nThis will be followed by a discussion with Jon O’Connor of Sunflower House and AFRA that revolves around the theme of Pride in Place and how we feel about Folkestone.\nWe really want to hear your opinions on living here – highs and lows – and how you see a Civic Society being relevant today.\nThis event is completely free\, although donations to help cover costs will be welcomed. Refreshments will be served. \nYou are welcome to join as a member on the day – it costs just £10 for the year (£15 for joint membership) and you will receive three newsletters and enjoy discounted entry to events. Members who haven’t renewed can also pay on the day – and we now have a card reader! \nWe hope this will be a really insightful discussion\, so come along and have your voice heard! \nShare This:
