Folkestone’s Victoria Pier

28 September @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

£5
Poster for 'Folkestone's Victoria Pier'

A talk by Martin Easdown and Tony Hill.

ABOUT THE TALK

The Victoria Pier served Folkestone’s residents and visitors for over 50 years.  In its lifetime, it served many varied functions.  Come and learn its fascinating history!

You will also learn the remarkable story of how the pier’s very heavy foundation stone was discovered 10 miles away from Folkestone decades after the pier was dismanted, how it came to be there and about the efforts by Go Folkestone to put it back in its rightful place, on display close to its original location.

Doors open at 2pm for a 2.30pm start.  Refreshments will be served.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Martin Easdown is one of the country’s top pier historians and has been the National Piers Society’s archivist for 30 years.  He is also a local historian with a particular interest in Hythe, the Royal Victoria Hospital and – of course – local piers!  He has written numerous pier history books and several local history books, usually with his partner, Linda Sage.

Tony Hill is a local historian and committee member of the New Folkestone Society, Go Folkestone and the Folkestone and District Local History Society.  In his spare time(!) he is a keen model railway enthusiast and modelmaker, and has written books and given lectures across the country on the topic of model railway construction.
